The point was not that it was there, the point of the reviewer was that such things are prominently displayed in the scenes as a means of establishing Jewishness and kosherness (rather than actual authentic dialog and stuff). To use an analogy, it is rather like the midrash we all learn in elementary school on why the pig thrusts out its front hooves. Why? The pig holds out it split hooves to say "look, I am kosher! Do not pay attention to the fact that I don't also chew my cud."
I don't even need a positive portrayal. I remember how excited I got when watching an episode of Serenity when the bit character fencing the goods for Mal and the crew was wearing a kippah. I was like: Yes! There will be Jews in the future, and they will be normal people doing ordinary stuff! Woo Hoo!!
