Link Harvest: The "Hack Gap" In The Media

A pretty good summation of something I've been tracking for 20 years. How the conservative movement built itself a huge advantage in news and propaganda.

This is not unique to the United States. If you look at the rise of a number of politicians, such as Berlesconi in Italy, you find that a critical element in their ascendence is acquisition of a significant number of mass media outlets either directly or through allies. It is why one of Putin's first moves was against the oligarch who controlled a media chain critical of Putin's regime, and why he distributed chunks of that empire to friends after having said rival imprisoned on fraud charges.

Good summary, but I don't know what can be done about it since liberals are much less likely to engage in these types of tactics.
