Paper: The Hidden Tribes of America
Nov. 1st, 2018 10:52 amStudy surveyed tens of thousands and diverse population of Americans. Identified seven core "tribes" based on personality traits: Progressive activists (8%), traditional liberal (11%), politically disengaged (26%), moderates (15%), traditional conservatives (19%), devoted conservatives (6%). Of these study found that the "wings" (Progressive Activists, traditional Conservatives, and Devoted Conservatives) were most conssitent as a group in response to questions on policy issues and most resistant to compromise. The remaining groups are described by the author as the "exhausted majority" and are more likely to have less correlation between tribal identity and response to policy questions and believe that compromise is essential to politics.
